Mechanism of Action:
- Levofloxacin inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are essential enzymes for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. By interfering with these processes, Levofloxacin prevents bacterial growth and leads to bacterial cell death.
Indications:
Levo Denk 500 mg is prescribed for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including:
- Respiratory tract infections: Such as pneumonia and bronchitis.
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs): Including complicated UTIs and pyelonephritis.
- Skin and soft tissue infections.
- Bone and joint infections.
- Gastrointestinal infections: Such as intra-abdominal infections.
- Prostatitis (prostate infection).
Dosage and Administration:
- The usual adult dose is one 500 mg tablet taken once daily. The duration of treatment typically ranges from 7 to 14 days, depending on the type and severity of the infection.
- The tablet should be swallowed whole with plenty of water. It can be taken with or without food.
