ZENTEL Albendazole Suspension 20 ml is an anthelmintic (anti-worm) medication used to treat a variety of parasitic worm infections.

  • Active Ingredient: Albendazole
  • Formulation: Suspension (liquid)
  • Volume: 20 ml

Indications

ZENTEL Albendazole Suspension is indicated for the treatment of:

  • Intestinal worm infections: Including roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and pinworms.
  • Hydatid disease: Caused by the larvae of the dog tapeworm.
  • Neurocysticercosis: Caused by pork tapeworm larvae in the brain.
  • Other parasitic infections: As determined by a healthcare provider.

Dosage and Administration

The dosage of Albendazole suspension varies based on age, weight, and the type of infection. It is crucial to follow the healthcare providers instructions. Here are some general guidelines:

  • For children and adults:
    • Intestinal worms: 400 mg (10 ml of suspension) as a single dose. In some cases, the dose might need to be repeated after a few weeks.
    • Hydatid disease: Dose and duration depend on the infections severity and the patients response to treatment.
    • Neurocysticercosis: Typically requires longer treatment duration; specific dosing should be determined by a healthcare provider.

Shake the suspension well before each use to ensure proper mixing of the medication.

Mechanism of Action

Albendazole works by inhibiting the polymerization of tubulin into microtubules, essential components of the cells of parasites. This disruption causes energy depletion, immobilization, and eventual death of the parasite.

Precautions and Warnings

  • Consult a Doctor: Especially if pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Albendazole is contraindicated during pregnancy.
  • Liver Function: Liver function should be monitored during long-term therapy, as Albendazole can cause liver toxicity.
  • Blood Tests: Regular blood tests may be required to monitor for side effects, especially with prolonged treatment.
  • Drug Interactions: Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, as Albendazole can interact with other drugs.
